Smallhouse Log

Tuesday, Seventh Week
"Beauty with a capital T." - Vish, 11/27/2002

I have two main things to share today. The first came second, and was a conversation I had yesterday with an old aquaintance. We talked about clarifying the future, and how I really need to. Yeah.

The second comes out of the Soul Friends class that I'm a part of through Brent House. For the past Sunday's session, we were supposed to compose a creed of our own. Since I actually put a fair amount of thought into this, I'd like to share it here. So, then.

I believe in the almighty God, the creator and maintainer of all things.

I believe that God saw fit to grace mankind with independant will,
which mankind abused, and dove out of the grace of God.

I believe that because of God's great love for us, God gave our forefathers a code by which to live,
and that mankind has failed to do so.

I believe that because of that same love, God chose to take human form,
be born on earth, and live among mankind,
existing as fully human, so as to share fully in our experience,
    and simultaneously as full divine,
and that this person was Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ,
    who lived a blameless life,
in order that He could be brutally murdered as a sacrifice for our sins.

I believe that Jesus Christ returned from the dead, ascended to heaven, and will return in glory.

I believe that it is only by accepting Jesus's sacrifice for our sake that any person can return to the grace of God.

I believe in a life after this one, where all who accept this grace will be reunited to God.

I'm not sure if this veganism thing is going to work out.

Valentine's Day
"Let's have a Good Friday party -with lots of drinking!" - 'Bookie John', 04/16/2003

So, I just now finished fixing the iconic inconsistancies in the backlogue, and noticed along the way that a) I used to have some really cool MSN screennames, and b) I misspelled Zarya's name for much longer than I had been thinking that I had. Also, I accidentally used many quotes twice. Whoops.

I had thought that tonight, while everyone else was distracted, I might be able to get work done. *sigh* "It's no surprise to me, I am my own worst enemy." "Can this be? I am the worst thing that's ever happened to me." Props if you can recognise the second one, shame if you don't know the first.

So I spent the day filming a Kill Bill Spoof. I played a member of the 'Conservative 88s'. We found a ded mouse in BJ. I think I may really start eating at Pierce.

I should send Erin a valentine. Apparantly, today has nothing to do with a saint. Perhaps I should cave and drop that bit from my referrences thereto. Ah, well. Anyone else want a card, while I'm at it? They're made with recycled material. And they're in Latin.

"It is my belief that Valentine's Day is no day to be picking up women. Especially strange women. And every woman at this university is pretty strange."

Friday the Thirteenth
"Only child. I tickled myself." - Blake, 11/24/2002

So, 'work' on the backlogue continues. My screenname: Ten ninjas. That's also my wallpaper. How long has it been since my screenname was '00:06'?

Alla changed the IE font somehow. I actually like it better, but it bothers me that I don't know how she did it. Perhaps I shoudl find out.

So it's Friday the Thirteenth, raight? Well, Iouri had a really, really bad day. He had two exams today, two papers due today, and he broke his teeth somehow. I gave him a valentine to cheer him up.

I still haven't catalogued the CDs I got for Christmas.

Later that day
"I will hit you over the head if you get a concussion." - Anna B., 01/28

"I don't know what that means, but I know that I meant it."
"See? I'm not insane, in fact, I'm kind of rational when I be askin' 'Yo, where did all the passion go?'"
"Love is my motive; that's why I'm killing them."
I really like this song: Atmosphere - Trying to Find a Balance

Whoa, I think I just remember one of my rants that I wasn't able to write down. I don't feel like ranting now, though. Let me just say that Saturday Night Fever didn't answer any of life's great questions , it's harder than one'd think to pee on Henry Crown, I managd to get myself thouroughly depressed on the way home, and then Ruthie gave me cookies. Oh, did I ever mention that my current screenname is 'A calculus for our ardours'?

Apparantly, Loren Jan Wilson finished his classwork in 1999. He's supposed to graduate this spring.

Thursday
"We were having a nice coffee-shop talk here, and then it got derailed by screaming teenage girls.... as I wish more things in my life were." - Dinesh, 01/16

I just bought a T-shirt from the fencing club that says "Does your vorpal blade go snicker-snack?" For cheaps, too. Awesome.

I always forget what I want to post about by the time I get around to doing so. I did have a curious converation with the sun yesterday, though. Or rather, I yelled at it like a loonie. It went something like, "Aghhhh!! *sunglasses* Oh, you think you're so bright and shiny, huh? Well, hahaha, sucker! Bite me!" I really don't know why they classify the sun as male; it's so obviously female. I had seen (pluperfect, fwee!) the sunrise that morning, and it was soft and beautiful, but by afternoon, the sun was cold, unhelpful, and harsh. Bah.

So, I think I should've posted this earlier, but anyway. This one is pretty much done by now, but I think this one still has some life in it yet. I just think those things are so cool.

Speaking of so cool, I recently acquired two new webcomics worth reading. Questionable Content is a somewhat popular strip about post-education cynical indie kids, if you like that sort of thing. The art could be better, and the characters more distinct, but in a genre full of comics one almost can't tell apart, this one is at least funny most of the time.Fade Resistant, on the other hand, is a great (and, I fear, greatly unknown) comic about hicks and the afterlife. Maybe I just really like the idea of an afterlife with a loophole, maybe I just really like the idea of the Devil as a chubby, pimply, nerdy guy called 'Eno', or maybe I just really want a Julio Vargas plushie doll. In any case, check this one out. The art is good-looking, the characters have an awesome (but not necessarily large) amount of depth, and the plot resembles a dream in that it makes perfect sense at the time.

'Acquire fire' sounds really, really cool, don't you think?

Later that day
"Your narrow opinion of the Norwegians is going to be the death of you." - Heavens, 01/30

Wow! Ian is actually working on his website! What could this mean? It could mean that I'll be cleaning up the log of older posts, adding talkies, and maybe filling in the writing index.... fun!

But even more fun.... Mr. Hyde 003, 'Going All the Way' compilation. I should've posted that long ago. It is filled with awesomeness, all home-grown here in Hyde Park. Rawk.

I am sooo road trip this spring break.

Wednesday, Sixth Week
"I'd have to propel myself straight upward, using only raindrops." - Drew, 12/20/2002

I've still got a lot of homework to do before class, so I'll keep this short.

Fear.

In other bad news, Orange Rocks is effectively shutting down.

"I don't care if they're proud of us; we're loud enough, we're loud enough." - 'Power-Up', Soulcrate Music
