Smallhouse Log

Monday

I did the math the other day, and I estimate that over the past two months, I have spent about five per cent of my waking time listening to the Hold Steady, admittedly mostly while also engaged in other activities, primarily transit. I don't know why, but riding the CTA always makes me want to listen to the Hold Steady. As a result, I play the entire studio discography (which is approximately two and a half hours long, and in general makes a great playlist as-is) twice a week. And.

But they're still no Magnetic Fields. All their songs are so heartbreaking, and beautiful, and oftener than not, heartbreakingly beautiful.

Also, still reading Infinite Jest, but starting to worry that it may exacerbate my existing proclivity for hyperprose.

Yeah, just wait till you start entering footnotes to footnotes, in even tinier text. Hey, it could be done as a geometric series, disappearing into invisibility at the bottom of the page...

Oh, yes, I've already been witness to the endnotes of endnotes phenomenon. It does get a bit silly.
