Smallhouse Log

Wednesday (Feast of St. Bernard of Clairvaux)

Saint Bernard was the patron of the Knights Templar, apparently. And possibly of dogs with tiny kegs of brandy? That might have been a different Saint Bernard; there were like five of them.

In other wonderful facts, I just learned that avocados have as wide a range of proteins as an egg, and were a favorite food of dinosaurs. Also you can call them alligator pears, because they're called that, just like you can call a mountain lion a cougar or, if you really want to pump it up, a puma. Bonus points for the British pronunciation. I kind of want to have an avocado party now, but everyone would just bring guacamole. That would be distressing.

I finally had dream that was not stressful and tedious, and I was so excited by this that I immediately went back to sleep.

You know, you could just make it an explicit condition, and say that anyone bringing guacamole will be cast out into the darkness with wailing and gnashing of teeth. Dang. That'd be pretty awesome on a party invitation, don't you think?

I think it would reflect poorly on me as a host to throw a party which featured much weeping and gnashing of teeth, or that had a poorly-lit exterior. Besides, everyone that's not me seems to love guacamole so much they'd gladly strip nude below the waist and wade through it hip-deep for the rest of their lives.

I suppose that eventuality would also reflect poorly on me as a host.

I don't know - while I have no opposition to people wading half-naked through guacamole, I'd prefer it to be the top half, and by people, I mean the members of the Brazilian women's Olympic volleyball team. Also, they were named after St. Bernard of Menthon. Nice try, Protestant heretic.

C'mon, it's just like if you show up without proper attire at a wedding. You might have qualms about doing it, but there's biblical precedent for doing so and it's the right thing. The more you know!
