late that night
I made the mistake just now of reading a letter postmarked April, anno Domini 2002. I suppose I should be glad it wasn't postmarked, say, July, 2005. I miss things I can't have. And while that's a step up, I suppose, from missing things I've never had (see poetry section for details), still pretty much a downer.
I don't want to wait a year and a half.
Monday
I did the math the other day, and I estimate that over the past two months, I have spent about five per cent of my waking time listening to the Hold Steady, admittedly mostly while also engaged in other activities, primarily transit. I don't know why, but riding the CTA always makes me want to listen to the Hold Steady. As a result, I play the entire studio discography (which is approximately two and a half hours long, and in general makes a great playlist as-is) twice a week. And.
But they're still no Magnetic Fields. All their songs are so heartbreaking, and beautiful, and oftener than not, heartbreakingly beautiful.
Also, still reading Infinite Jest, but starting to worry that it may exacerbate my existing proclivity for hyperprose.
First Sunday of Advent
So. My adherence to the three goals has been acceptable so far, but I think it's time to revisit them. I can only hope that the process goes smoothly.
Ok, actually, I just laughed for a straight minute when I read that comic, and I wanted to share it. So.
So glad it's Advent.
Friday night
She was a damn good dancer.
"So I think..." I said. "I think I should start dating a cute girl."
Brian said, "This is new."
He said, "Have one in mind?"
You know what the problem with my apartment is? No elevators. Nowhere to do primal screaming. On the plus side, adorable kitty-cat. But.
later that night
I am so excited about something right now that I'm not even going to tell you what it is.
I did fix all those errors, though. They mostly had to do with unescaped ampersands.
Thursday
"All these cute girls keep coming up and flirting with me, but they just want to put eggs in my pocket." -Tricky Augustine, 05/??/2007
Hoo-ray! Asbestos is up and running once more with a shiny new power supply. And now that I have access to all my diagnostic tools once more, I can see all the lamentable errors in my new code for the log. This can be fixed.
Truly a joyous day, for today I also found my long-lost silent cell phone. Looking for it over the past few days, I'd found several hairties, a missing art pen, two lighters, thirty-seven cents, and a drumstick. (It should be noted that neither Brian nor I play the drums.)
But imagine my surprise when I realized that twenty-four one-cent stamps wound only cost me twenty-four cents!
